His Clock’s About to Strike the Midnight Hour

May 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

About fifteen years ago my wife and I bought a grandfather clock. It is a beautiful piece of furniture and it keeps impeccable time …as long as you remember to pull the weights regularly. We still have it today and it is still a timeless piece of furniture …pardon the pun. And it keeps time now as well as it did the first day we purchased it.

I remember the first day that it was delivered. We found the perfect spot in the house for it, then we sat admiring it’s beauty and smiled at each other as it chimed it’s melody for us every hour, half hour, and even every quarter hour. This was great and even somewhat endearing until bedtime.

The first week of being awakened during the night every fifteen minutes was almost more than I could endure. But like most everything else when you become accustomed to it, you don’t even notice it anymore. Now, I sleep throughout the night without paying any attention to the old grandfather clock’s faithfulness to let me know what hour it is.

As Christians we dare not become accustomed to the timely warnings of our faithful Father and not recognize the hour in which we live. Like the frog in the kettle many people are slowly put to sleep by this world’s assurance that things continue as they always have, the Lord delays his coming …enjoy your sleep!

Jesus said, “watch therefore for you don’t know not what day or hour your Lord will come.” In fact he said “it would be in an hour when you do not expect him.” Our Father is faithful in keeping us informed concerning the time of the coming of his dear son. If you will pay attention you will hear the ticking of our heavenly Father’s clock…”it’s about to strike the midnight hour.”
