Concerned about the future? Most of us are. It’s hard not to be focused on the future when it seems so uncertain. Consider our financial markets. Investors are skeptical about the future. Speculators are loosing their confidence to drive the market because of the uncertainty of the future. Financial analyists are all over the board, but none are optimistic about the immediate future. And the Federal Government is… sure not sure! And to prove it, they have a track record of not having a clue about what’s going to happen in the future! Did they not see this one coming or what?
So, “How Does Your Future Look?” It is best to look at the future realistically. None of us really know what the future holds. Our newly elected Administration, with a Democratic controlled House, will spend over $800 billion dollars to try and stablize the economy and calm the fears of America and the world. Yet, many financial experts are left in consternation because they don’t believe this stimulus package will work. Truth is, no one knows for sure!
Home Land Security is also in question. In the future, will our nation’s safety be in jepordy because of the elimination of some of the Intelligence tools that were previously in place to protect our nation? Major changes have been made and more are promised to come. Will these changes be for better or worse? Only the future will tell.
There are many other matters concerning our future that demand our attention. Domestic concerns such as education for our children, our dependence on foreign oil, and health care, are just a few to mention. Our future is affected by Foreign concerns as well. Iran’s race for nuclear power, Israel’s war in the Gaza, and our own on-going-war in Iraq and Afganistan. These are all very real matters concerning our future.
It is foolish to presume we know what the future holds…we don’t! In fact, the Apostle James writes, (Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why you don’t even know what will happen tomorrow). We don’t know whether the future is going to get better or worse. What we do know is that God is the one who holds the future.
Fretting and worrying about the future is futile. Jesus said,”Do not worry, saying, ’What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ ’Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about it’s self.” Why waste today worrying about tomorrow? We must plan for the future as best we can, and then enjoy today to it’s fullest. It is foolish to focus on the future when there is so much to enjoy today.
How does your future look? Bleak? Frightening? Uncertain? Let me urge you to give you heart, life, and future to Jesus. And if you don’t have a church that you can call your “Home Church,” let me invite you to The Connection Church of Arlington here in Arlington, Texas. We will help you get connected with people that will help you feel better about your future. Come just as you are and join us… because from here, “The Future Looks Great!”
