Choices Determine Destiny!

July 31st, 2008 · No Comments

Our choices determine our future.  Do you remember the story of Lot and his family? Abram and Lot both were very successful and shared the same grazing fields for their herds. The herdsman began to quarrel over the fields so Abram said to Lot, ” We should split up, you choose the direction you want to go, and I’ll go the other.”

The bible says, “Lot chose for himself the well-watered plains of Jordan.” This included the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. This choice affected his entire family and cost him the life of his wife who turned to look back on the city that God told them to flee from and she turned into a pillar of salt. Our choices in life not only affect us but often times the ones we love also.

I often think how very different my life and the lives of my children and grandchildren have been affected by a decision I made twenty-five years ago. At the time it was only my wife and I and our four children. I made a decision to move from the panhandle of Texas to the Dallas area to go to Bible college. Our children were still in school and have since all married and now have children of their own.

Our entire family gets together often. Three generations of us, and I’m sure four before too long because my oldest grandaughter is ninteen, all affected by a single decision I made many years ago. I wonder sometimes if I hadn’t made that decision and not moved to Dallas, who my children might have married and how different things might have been.

You see, the choices we make shapes and forms our future and determines our destiny.  That is why it it so critical when making decisions to ask ourselves how is this going to affect me and the people around me that I love. God has a great plan for our future. Consider the choices you make in the light of God’s will for your life. Seek him with all your heart and you will not be dissappointed.
